"America's Greatest Animals" - Nat Geo Wild

Tired of hearing about the 'Big 5' of Africa, Nat Geo Wild has decided to showcase America's own 'Big 5' by dividing the continent into 4 regions: mountains, prairie, arctic, and forest where they rate the big animals that live in these regions on a 20 point scale.

I love this one due to the fact that it talks a lot about animals that are rarely featured in nature documentaries such as the pronghorn, mountain lion and moose. This is great because it teaches you something about animals that you may not get to here about very much.

That being said, "America's Greatest Animals" had more problems than it did benefits. The way it was set up was rather juvenile. They used 4 Nat Geo scientists to commentate on the animals. This made it feel more like some countdown on VH1 than a nature documentary on Nat Geo. The information was given in short and quick bursts usually accompanied by some jokes by the commentators.

While this might not be very interesting for adults I have a feeling that children and younger teenagers would really enjoy it. It has the look of something that would get kids to pay attention and the short bits of info work great for anyone with a short attention span.
